How do exams work, and how do I book one?
What it is
How exams are organised at an Italian university: three sessions a year, booked online, and mostly oral.
Why you need it
There is no exam without a booking, whatever the department's calendar says. Missing that step means you cannot sit the exam at all, whether or not you turned up.
When
Three sessions a year: winter, summer and autumn. Your department publishes the exact dates for its own courses each year; check there rather than waiting to be told.
In Bari
The winter session runs in January and February, for first-semester courses. The summer session runs in June and July, for second-semester courses and retakes. The autumn session, in September, is a recovery session.
What you need first
- Your course confirmed and its exams identified, from your department
- Your login for your university's student portal
- Photo ID, to bring to the exam itself
Ask a student
Ask a student who has already sat an exam with the same professor what the oral actually felt like, since the format varies a lot between examiners even within one department.
