Where do I stay if I land without a room?
What it is
Short-term accommodation, a hostel, hotel, B&B or short-let apartment, booked for your first days or weeks if you arrive without a signed lease.
Why you need it
Landing with nowhere booked and no room signed leaves you with two bad options: sign a flat you have not seen, or have nowhere to sleep. A few nights of temporary accommodation buys you time to view rooms in person before you commit.
When
Book it before you travel if your room search is not finished by the time your flight is. Extend it, rather than sign something unseen, if you need longer once you land.
In Bari
Book 3 to 7 nights so you can see rooms in person before you pay. September is the busiest month for room hunting, and booking only 1 or 2 nights pushes you into signing for the first room you see.
What you need first
- A card or cash for the booking
- A rough idea of the neighbourhoods near your university, so you book somewhere you can search from
Ask a student
Ask where they stayed for their first nights and whether it was easy to view rooms from there, since a good base for house-hunting matters as much as the price.
